Which refund policy?

About the program

Is it approved by PTIRU?

Approved programs follow the full refund schedule. Programs that don’t require approval have far narrower protection.

How is it delivered?

What the student pays under the contract, after any scholarship or discount. Leave out application and material fees.

What happened?

The schedule is the same for domestic and international students. “Study permit refused” applies only to international students who needed one — refused before the 30% point means a full refund.

When was notice given?

7 days or fewer, and before the start date, is a full refund.

Anything else? Optional

Flight or aviation school — add aircraft fees

These aren’t tuition. Any unused balance is refunded in full on withdrawal, dismissal or no-show — on top of the tuition refund.

Built on the current rules

The BC Private Training Regulation was last amended on 1 January 2025, and many refund policies published online still show the old schedule. This calculator uses the PTIRU Private Training Act Policy Manual published 3 November 2025, and tells you which rule applied to each result.

It estimates the minimum tuition refund the regulation requires — the most an institution may keep. Your own published policy may return more, and you must apply it. Percentages are measured by hours of instruction; date-based figures are estimates. This is general information, not legal advice, and doesn’t bind PTIRU — in any dispute, PTIRU’s determination and the current regulation govern. Verify against the current PTIRU Policy Manual.
